I was wondering the same - are the TPMS readings just supposed to show up or does one have to buy a sender/transmitter ?
From the dialog it seems you have to buy the 4 valve stem sensors and get them installed at a tire shop since it requires removal of the tire from the rim and rebalancing. The receiver then plus into the system for a live display of the tire pressure.
I was looking for a way to tap into the OEM sensor signals - given the silence on this topic it does not look like it is possible ?
When you're in there you'll see an option to choose either internal or external sensors:
You described the internal ones, where the tire shop needs to install them, but I bought the external ones.
First I plugged the receiver into the USB port of the G13 unit. Then I started putting the monitors on each tire, and within seconds the app was displaying the pressure for each tire.
You need to use the middle app from this screenshot:
It's working great. I'm not 100% convinced about the external monitors longevity but I want to do 5 tire rotation and I would have had to remove tires to get the internal sensor off the spare, and that is too much expense.
I tested it by deflating one of the tires, and it gives an alert you're not going to miss. Also you don't need to have the TPMS screen up - it will alert you no matter what screen you're on.
This module doesn't affect the digital cluster behind the steering wheel. That will continue to work normally with the factory TPMS sensors installed inside your tires.
I have a Tacoma and am doing 5 wheel tire rotation. My problem was the Tacoma only supports 4 factory TPMS sensors, so when rotating in the spare I would need to have the sensors reprogrammed, and that isn't cheap.
I bought this module with the external sensors because the sensors screw onto the tire valves. This makes it simple and cost-free when doing 5 tire rotation, because I just move them to the correct tires.
@Steve Toeniskoetter Thank you for that. I don't need the head unit to tell me this. Glad I didn't jump the gun on that option. I appreciate your reply.
I have a 2016 Toyota Tundra and i can see the tire pressure if i use the Techstream software on my laptop. The pressures do not show up on the cluster, just a warning light, if the pressure drops.
Since i already have TPMS valves installed for each tire, can i purchase the external version and not use those caps? The tire shops around my area will remove caps on TPMS valve stems if the cap is not plain plastic and give them back to the customer.
