I have a few questions. Is the screen being sold with the new version with knobs the same screen as the unit without? I have the original without the knobs. I've noticed it just doesn't work well in sunlight. It reflects too much and from eyeballing I'd say its around 400-500 nits. Is the new screen with knobs any brighter or have an anti-glare coating? Is the screen purchasable on its own?
If the screen is not purchasable separate or any brighter, can the unit boot without the factory screen attached? I was thinking of purchasing a aftermarket 1000 nit touchscreen of the same size and resolution with capacitive touch and just run it from the hdmi output and usb for the touch panel. There are several models available.
Finally, if the unit will not boot without the factory screen attached, can you at least inform us of which pins on the ribbon cable the internal mic is on so that I can cover the contact on the cable as the internal mic destroys call quality even when using an external mic as the internal one is impossible to disable via software.
