There's only one way to insert the SIM card into the module and that is as you have suggested it.
I did that already.
I think the issue is if I need to go somewhere into setting for the SIM card to be detected. Unless my module is not working ( even though I only purchased my unit a few months ago so it should be brand new)

The SIM card should be fully inserted and heard "click". 2、 Please confirm: Settings > Car > factory setting(password :126) > other > SIM card voice call > YES > Apply > Exit > Reboot. 3、 Please tell us about the carrier of your 4G SIM card. @Support Dasaita I have a verizon SIM and its not connecting me to the internet. It shows that my head unit is reading it but cannot connect. I have a g12 qcm6125
For further confirmation, please tell us if you can make phone calls via SIM card.
If possible, please use other SIM cards(T-Mobile/AT&T) to test how it goes.

Tips: 1. Download above update file via your computer/laptop. 2. Format USB drive to FAT32 Format. 3. Copy the file “update.zip”&“hmcu.img” to the root directory of USB drive. 4. Insert USB drive into the unit via USB cable; then it will pop up automatically a window of update.
